änsendå är ett nytt projekt av Nico Chavez som tidigare spelat i olika konstellationer i Londons psych- och garagerock-scen, där han delat scen med band som Goat Girl och Bat-Bike. Den 16 april släpps den självbetitlade debut-EP:n som innehåller av bl.a. P3 och HYMN hyllade singlarna 'Mina Drömmars Moln' och 'Nya Normala'.

Efter att ha bott i London i 12 år, studerat på konstskola och arbetat i musikvideobranschen är han nu tillbaka i Stockholm och har för första gången skrivit musik på svenska. Soundet är en mix av psych-pop och indie rock med funkiga undertoner som mixats av Dungens Mattias Gustavsson. Texterna är lättsamma med en touch av socialrealism och humor.

Nico berättar om EP:n: "Låtarna på änsendå EP:n tacklar ämnen som utanförskap, segregation och pandemin på ett humoristiskt och lättsamt sätt. Jag ville sätta de socialrealistiska låttexterna mot ett funkigt psykedeliskt-pop sound för att kontrastera de djupare aspekterna i låtarna. Soundet hittar inspiration i svensk 70-tals progg, amerikansk 70-tals funk och japansk 80-tals avantgarde. EP:n lever kanske ändå i sin alldeles egna genre, något min gode vän (och trummis) döpt till “orten-progg”."

änsendå is a new solo project from Nico Chavez who previously has played in different constellations on London's psych and garage scene, sharing stages with Goat Girl and Bat-Bike among others. After living over a decade in the British capital, studying art and working with music videos, Chavez returned to his native Stockholm and started writing music in Swedish for the first time. The result is a funk infused mix of indie rock and psych pop, a sound that's been refined together with Mattias Gustavsson (Dungen). On April 16th, the self-titled debut EP is released.

Nico Chavez on the debut: "The änsendå EP touches on several themes like alienation, segregation and the pandemic but done in way that comes across as lighthearted and fun. I wanted to juxtapose the socio-real lyrics over a bright psych-pop sound to contrast the severity of the aforementioned themes. The sound is inspired by Swedish progressive rock from the 70s, 70s funk from the US and a bit 80s Japanese Avantgarde. But in a way, maybe the EP falls under it’s own genre, something a good friend of mine (my drummer) coined as “orten progg” (which bizarrely translates to something like “urban prog rock”)."

'änsendå' EP is out on April 16th via Rama Lama Records (Melby, Steve Buscemi’s Dreamy Eyes, Chez Ali, Kindsight, Kluster B, Loaver etc.). A music video for debut single “Nya Normala” is available now, made from stock footage from Eternal Family (eternal.tv) where artists like Mac Demarco and Jerry Paper contribute content. The video makes you laugh by showing a few characters dealing (or not dealing) with isolation.
